According to my new favorite webside http://www.nrdc.org/ ancient and other endanger forests are being destroyed to manufacture toilet paper, facial tissues and paper towels. Here are some interesting facts:
If every household in the US (yes Canada as well) replaced just 1 box of virgin fiber tissues (175 sheets) with 100% recycled ones we could save 163,000 trees.
If we replaced just 1 roll of virgin fiber toilet paper (500 sheets) with 100% recycled ones we could save 423,900 trees.
If we replaced just one roll of virgin fiber paper towel (70 sheets) with 100% recycled ones we could save 544,000 trees.
WOW!! that's alot of trees being destroyed for our bottoms, snivelling noses and our spills. But thankfully there are a range of alternatives. The no name products at No frills and President Choice offer made from 100% recycled paper and whitened without adding chlorine bleach toilet paper. I discovered this, this morning when I check out my toilet paper after reading the startling facts. I'm pretty sure their facial tissue and paper towels are the same. Marcal also offers made from 100% recycled paper products. Lastly 365 Whole Foods and Seventh Generation are 100% recycled products and can be found at Whole Foods.
