Green Girls are Doin' it for Themselves!

At long last I am finally inspired. I was on http://www.treehugger.com/ when I came across a new clothing line Sublet which was launched just a week ago. I love the beauty and simplicity of the clothing. Made domestically in New York, with bamboo and organic cotton fabric. The two female designers work very hard to minimize their footprint by biking, using canvas totes and composting. It's amazing the power of a Single Green Female!

These are a Few of my Favorite Green Things!

I love that part in the Sound of Music and she was being totally green.....She recycled the curtains and turned them into play clothes, bloody brilliant!
I have finally gone over my Domino magazine with a fine toothed comb and have made a list of my favorite green things: The One hundred percent recycled aluminum foil from http://www.greenfeet.com/ they also have unbleached wax paper and plastic wrap which is PVC free. The solar flashlight from http://www.bogolight.com/, they are great because when you purchase one another goes to a relief group which helps light the way for African children and families to read at night (I must have one). Toothbrush and razor from http://recycline.com/. It is made from 100% recycled plastic with at least 65% Stonyfield farm yogurt cups. The Low flow shower head from http://www.americanstandard-us.com/, it uses 40% less water and is very stylish. Nail polish and remover from http://www.acquarellapolish.com/ that is free of formaldehyde, phthalates, toluene or other petrochemical solvents. Organic cotton fabric from http://www.modgreenpod.com/, it's silk screened with water based non-toxic ink. I love the Wee Jubilee print, I want it for my daughter's room!

Green Reeds! The Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw

The Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw: One Woman's Fight to Save the Worlds Most Beautiful Bird (phew! that's a long title) by Bruce Barcott. I have decided this week to spice things up and instead of featuring a book that tells you how to live green, I have chosen an exciting fiction novel with intrigue and adventure. Our main character Sharon Matola is a motocycle riding, lion-taming, monkey smuggling, Air force Veteran is determined to stop the building of a Dam in Western Belize. Fighting corrupt local officials with the Natural Resource Defense Counsel by her side. The author takes the reader on a journey with dramatic legal proceedings, the environmental downside of dams and how and why animals go extinct. For a full review of this book check out http://www.nytimes.com/. I always love a good read especially when the hero is female. It just takes a Single Green Female!

The product range consists of moisturizers, cleansers toner and three elixirs. It is the ultimate in pampering and gives your skin all the natural essentials it deserves. Tweenie Greenie!

Greeny Todd the demon seamstress of fleet street has struck again. My daughter has taken up snowboarding so I bought her all this gear over the christmas holiday's. I love Sporting Life but sometimes they are a bit pricey ( I know! this coming from the girl who wants a pair of Stella McCartney shoes). They have these sorta turtleneck scarfs made from fleece which are more convienent that a long scarf that could get in the way. I rememberd in our big basket of winter scarfs, hats and mitts there was this unsightly black fleece scarf and my daughter had just complained about her favorite hat not fitting anymore. The hat is important because it has cute crochet flowers on it. Well I got out my handy scissors and the sewing machine and went to work. It took about ten minutes and Voila! a stylish snowboarding scarf.

Little Miss Green Manners!

I am on a mission to greenify my daughters lunch and now I am fully inspired by these cute napkins for children by http://www.fabkins.com/ . Created by two Eco-Moms on a mission to save the planet one small step at a time. Fabkins come in six themes to delight any child and sold in packs of five, one for everyday of the week! So if your ready to teach your child some green manners this is a nice way to start!

Fashion Friday's: How Stella got her Green Groove Back!

She actually never lost it but of course I just wanted to say that. Hold on to your seats it's going to be a two day of the Queen of Sustainable Style. Stella McCartney is my absolute fashion idol, she has taken almost every aspect of fashion and made it sustianable. Today I bought the Green issue of Domino Magazine, I can't get enough of it. In it there was a feature on Lauren Bush and here daily routine I know you are probably wondering where I'm going with this......... Oh! I hate to say it but her outfit left something to be desired (sorry!). The shoes though, the shoe were magnificent little works of art, Lauren looked pretty as well. I neeeeed to have them in my life, they are made from wood, cloth and beaded to perfection. I love how Stella comes up with different ways to make sustainable fashion beautiful. Last season she had the straw shoe they looked lovely but I was afraid they would blister my feet. Just being honest!

I see London I see France I see Stella's eco-underpants!
Sassy, sexy in an ultra feminine pallet of soft pinks, creams and dove grey, the thirteen piece collection is made with organic cotton and silk chiffon. I love love love it, she designs my two favorite things shoes and lingerie with eco-friendly style.
Sorry! I'm still on my accessory kick cause I haven't seen any clothes that tickles my fancy!

Green Moma's

I think that most moms can agree that our children inspire us to go green. I know I don't want to be know as the generation that squandered our children's Legacy!
Our G-Girls of the week or should I say G-Moma's are Julia Roberts and Soleil Moon Frye. Julia Robert's is quoted as saying "her children inspired her to go green." To prove her green love she built a 30million eco-friendly home complete with recycled tiles, solar panels and energy saving equipment. She also swaddles her little one in G-diapers which rock for the environment.

Soleil Moon Frye my fond yet distant memories of Soleil Moon Frye is as Punky Brewster the flashy girl with a cool room. Today she is all grown up and is keeping other childrens room cool with her eco-friendly store Little Seed. They carry the most stylish and delightful green products. Visit their site for a sneak peek http://www.littleseed.com/.

Are we being Lead Astray!

Recently I have been hearing about all these recall of children's products with traces of lead. Is nothing sacred! I was doing my daily visit of all my favorite green sites when I came across Lipstick:Leaded or Unleaded on http://www.greenguide.com/. The article describes some of the dangers of lead. Through tests they found it hinders brain development and causes kidney problems. It also discusses the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics report "A Poison Kiss:" The Problem of Lead in Lipstick. They tested 33 lipstick and found that two-thirds had lead levels higher than the FDA's allowable level. Do you Kiss your Mother with that Mouth! I'm sure as hell not going to, I'm on a mission to find the perfect lipstick.

Happy Presidents Day!

Have I got some green exciting news for you! According to http://www.grist.org/ Abe Lincoln's summer home is going green. After a seven years restoration it is the first historic monument to receive the LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. They restored most of the fabric in the house as opposed to sending it to a landfill and updated systems to make the house more energy efficient. That ole Abe is always ahead of the game!

Fair Trade....Think Global Shop Local!

This not only applies to green parents but the mini green set also. I have found the most adorable fruits and veggies and eco friendly shopping tote on my new favorite website for children http://www.mahardrygoods.com/. The crochet veggies double as rattles to keep you little one happy. I love the fact that they are not made from plastic. My favorite is the cupcakes!

99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall....99 Bottles of Beer!

I don't think one of those bottles will happend to fall since Oceanside Glasstile specializes in making glass tiles from recycled bottles. How cool is that! (FYI: I have refraimed from saying hot, it's so passe you know since global WARMING and all)
I was on http://www.dominomag.com/, because I am crazy and once I am through with the current month's magazine I visit their website to see what the new issue will look like (sick I know!) and they have tidbits from next months and guess what??? It's their green issue and they have all this green stuff on their website and I have been in eco-heaven for the past hour checking everything out and there is sooooooo much for every single aspect of your life. I love love love it! Anywho! Enough of my green rantings and ravings, that is how I found http://www.glasstile.com/. I wish I was building an eco home right now I would love to use this stuff!

Fashion Friday's!!!

I had the hardest time coming up with something fabulous to show y'all.......I surfed all my green websites to no avil, there just wasn't anything that made me really excited. Then I went on http://www.fashionista.com/ ( I know I know but I love them!) and I found something that made my green little heart sing! Jewellery! by a Canadian designer Kate Szabone (eh!) who lives in Whitby Ontario. She hand crafts limited edition jewellery and sells it on http://www.etsy.com/. I am absolutely crazy about her pinecone necklace which I feel every Canadian girl needs, slim organic stacking rings (they're $28 for a set of seven!!!!) and sterling silver bangle.
She does custom orders also, I hope she can do the bangle in gold I think it would look great with this vintage dress I have.

Happy Valentines Day!

I love Valentines Day and I have decided that I probably love it more than Christmas. I get really excited to bake with my daughter and decorate the house with hearts. This year I went overboard.....Hearts on the outside of our door and hearts all over my daughters room. But the best part Our Valentines dinner was organic and instead of buying cards we used stuff from my Mom's sewing kit thread and trim to make cards.
I absolutely love Loblaws their organic line is very extensive. I was able to make Organic Baby Spinach Salad with apple, cucumber and organic balsamic vinaigrette, Lasagna with all organic ingredients and the piece de resistance, the desert was all organic. They have organic cake mix!
Last Summer my daughter and I were walking along the lake and for some reason she has a knack for finding heart shapped stones....I think they also make a very nice gift.
I hope everyone is has a wonderful Valentines Day!

British Invasion!

It's that time of week again the G-Boy or G-Girl of the Week....but today I have three adorable moptop greenies from the UK!
Zac Goldsmith: The Golden Eco Warrior
One of Britian's leading green men, Zac Goldsmith is a hugh contributor to environmental awareness not only monetary but through his devotion to issues such as agriculture and energy. He supported the Organic Target Bill Campaign, which promotes organic farming and resulted in the ban of 320 pesticide ingredients across the European Union. Living on a 300 acre ecological estate in Devon with his wife and three children, Zac is also the editor of The Ecologist Magazine and presently a conservative candidate for Richmond Park. Green politicians mean a greener planet!
Colin Firth: Green Actually!
The poster boy for greeness, Colin Firth and his wife have opened Britians first ecological destination store aptly named ECO! The building is self sustainable with solar heating and they carry fair trade and ethical goods. Not sure how to take the first green step, there are experts on hand to offer tips for a greener lifestyle.
David de Rothschild: The Green Giant
An adventurer who has set the new record for the fastest crossing of the Greenland ice cap in June of 2005. The youngest British person to cross the continent of Antarctica, author of the book Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook and founder of Adventure Ecology ( which I have discussed before) an educational computer game that documents and solves enviromental problems. Wow! and he's not even thirty yet! Currently he is working with NBC on a series pilot that examines the enviromental impact of consumer products on day to day life. Oh! by the way green ladies did I mention that he is single. Hmmm Single Green Female.....Single Green Male I think it's a match made in eco-heaven!

Movin on up to the Green Side....to the Ecoluxe Apartment in the Sky!

Well I'm not actually moving into an ecoluxe apartment (yet!) but I found the best eco-friendly moving company Earth Friendly Moving on http://www.ecofabulous.com/. Unfortunately they are Southern California but thankfully they have plans to expand nationwide. They are the countries first zero-waste packing and moving systems and their trucks run on vegetable oil. Brilliant idea! The way it works, Reco Pack(Recycled Ecological Packing Solutions) provides reusable stackable boxes made from recycled plastic bottles to hold all your goods while the RecoCube, made from recycled paper sludge and added sugars protect your glassware. When you are done with the RecoCube you can put them in your garden and they will compost into plant food.
I hope they reach the NYC when I move back, they sound amazing!

These Booties are made for Walkin!

I have to apologize for my delay with posting but the munchkin (my daughter) has been sick and I have been tending to her. I stumbled across this website the other day and fell in love with all these baby booties. On the website http://www.hipandlittle.com/ I found a pair of Annie get your Gun booties and on http://www.mahardrygoods.com/ I found what I like to call Jesus sandle booties, He Shoot's He Score's and Figure Skating booties.
